Notary Public Services
A Notary Public (aka Notary) is a public official appointed by a state government to help deter fraud. Notarys witness the signing of important documents and verify the identity of the signer(s), their willingness to sign the documents, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction. Generally, all legal documents will require your signature to be notarized—this is standard practice.
Notarys are also tasked with the job of ensuring that the people signing in front of them are competent to sign, are aware of the contents of the document they are signing, and show no sign of incapacity in regards to the signing of the legal document.
- It is illegal for a Notary to notarize a signature if the person signing is not competent.
- It is illegal for a Notary to notarize a signature if the person signing did not provide a proper, valid, state- or government-issued picture ID. Without a valid driver license or other form of ID, a Notary is forbidden from notarizing a signature.
- Notarys offer a legal service that impacts numerous institutions.
